Folks, somebody commented on one of our Shorts: “Wave your flag proudly.”
Fine. Which one?
If you wave your old country’s flag and Old Glory is nowhere in sight, or it’s an afterthought, you haven’t assimilated. You haven’t pledged allegiance. You’re in a new relationship and all you keep talking about is your ex.
This country was founded on Judeo-Christian Western culture. No ifs, ands or buts. At the founding, most Americans came from Britain, with Germans and Dutch behind them. The one large group from outside Europe was the enslaved Africans, and today Black Americans are among the most Christian, most Western people in this country. Asian immigrants weren’t here in any real number.
That’s the melting pot. Every group adds its flavor, and the pot stays one dish. A salad bowl is different. Everything sits next to everything else, separate, and never becomes one thing. That isn’t a country. It’s a food court.
We have to come together under one culture. Keep your recipes and your stories, and fly Old Glory first.
